The Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel is a highly sought-after Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that is always bottled as a single-barrel product at 100 proof (50% ABV), adhering to the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. Each barrel is hand-selected and aged in the historic, climate-controlled Warehouse C at the Buffalo Trace Distillery.
Production Details and Heritage
  • Single Barrel: The defining characteristic of this expression is that each bottle comes from a single, hand-picked barrel, meaning the exact flavor profile can vary slightly from one bottle to the next, which is part of its appeal.
  • Bottled-in-Bond (BiB): Like all expressions in the core E.H. Taylor line, it meets the strict Bottled-in-Bond requirements: produced in a single distilling season, aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at precisely 100 proof.
  • Mash Bill: It uses the low-rye Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1, which contributes to its classic, sweet, and rich profile.
  • Packaging: The bottle design is a likeness of the original bottle designs used by Colonel Taylor over a century ago.
Tasting Notes
The Single Barrel generally offers a complex and refined flavor profile, often described as richer and more complex than the Small Batch expression, depending on the barrel.
  • Nose: Aromas of dried figs, butterscotch, and light toasted oak are typical. Deeper inhales might reveal notes of vanilla, cherry, almond, and mandarin orange, with a touch of white pepper and spice.
  • Palate: The palate is creamy and full, delivering flavors of caramel corn sweetness and butterscotch, balanced with notes of tobacco and dark spices. Specific barrels have shown flavors of plum, apricot, ginger, and a baked bread/gingersnap quality.
  • Finish: The finish is smooth, long, and satisfying, leaving lingering notes of sweet oak, allspice, and a touch of brown sugar, making the palate ready for another sip.
